Office of the Auditor General of New Brunswick

The Office of the Auditor General of New Brunswick is a Canadian provincial government office within the Government of New Brunswick.

History

In the spring of 2022, the Office of the Auditor General was notified that the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick had passed a motion seeking to task it with conducting a review of the province's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.[1]

Volume I of the report was published in early September 2023.[2] Among other things, it found that the province's Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and CMOH Jennifer Russell were "at the bottom of New Brunswick's COVID-19 pandemic decision-making hierarchy," while a poorly-defined group called the COVID Core held outsized influence.[2:1][3]

The report further investigated the actions of the Cabinet Committee on COVID-19, the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization (NBEMO), the New Brunswick Department of Health, the New Brunswick Department of Justice and Public Safety, the Provincial Emergency Action Committee (PEAC), and the Health Emergency Operation Centre.
