Northern RNA

Northern RNA is a Canadian biomanufacturing company based in Calgary, Alberta.

History

Northern RNA was founded on August 19, 2020 by Brad Stevens and Thomas Hansen,[1][2][3] though Stevens' LinkedIn profile suggests the company began work in February 2020.[4]

COVID-19

On January 21, 2021, Northern RNA and Providence Therapeutics received a $5,050,000 grant from the Government of Canada through the Global Innovation Clusters initiative to "develop a made-in-Canada COVID-19 mRNA vaccine" and "establish mRNA vaccine manufacturing capacity within Canada and build a raw material supply chain that supports an exciting new industry."[5]

On January 26, 2021, Providence Therapeutics announced that it had begun Phase I clinical trials for its mRNA COVID-19 vaccine candidate, manufactured in partnership with Northern RNA, which provided the "basic building blocks" of RNA for the product.[3:1][6]
