Brenda Copps

Brenda Copps is a Canadian family physician in Hamilton, Ontario. She served as president of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) in 2020. Copps has practiced medicine at Core Care Family Health Team under Hamilton Family Health Team.[1] She is also employed as adjunct assistant clinical professor in family medicine in the McMaster University Faculty of Health Sciences.[2]

Copps operates under the corporate entity “Dr. Brenda Copps Medicine Professional Corporation”, certified on July 28, 2006. Her registered business addresses and places of work include McMaster Children's Hospital, Juravinski Hospital, St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton's Charlton Campus, and Hamilton General Hospital.[3]

She is the daughter of Geraldine and Vic Copps, part of the influential Copps political dynasty. Her sister is Sheila Copps, former deputy prime minister of Canada.[4]

History

Copps graduated from McMaster University in 1981.[3:1]

Career

Copps served as a board member for the Art Gallery of Hamilton.[5]

COVID-19

Copps was a practicing physician at Core Care Family Health Team at the time of her election as president to the CPSO. Copps tapped Dr. Christine Glenny to cover her appointments on Tuesdays while she attended CPSO meetings in Toronto. At the time, Dr. Glenny was new to the Core Care team and was beginning her practice.[6]

Copps remained with the CPSO in 2021 as an Elected Professional Member for Electoral District 4.[7]

Copps’ practice at Core Care Family Health Team doctors “STRONGLY recommend” their patients receive a COVID-19 vaccine,[8] and direct people with questions to a page called “[[VaxFacts]]” run by the Scarborough Health Network (SHN).[9]
