Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, branded as CBC/Radio-Canada, is a Canadian news media organization based in Ottawa, Ontario. It is a Crown corporation owned by the Government of Canada.
History
CBC participated in the Trusted News Initiative (TNI)'s Trust in News 2021 conference on March 22-24, 2021,[1] and the subsequent Trust in News 2022 on March 29-30, 2022.[2]
On December 1, 2022, CBC/Radio-Canada co-hosted an event with the Carleton School of Journalism and Communication and #NotOk titled "Journalists and online hate: What to do when the battlefield is everywhere." The event featured CBC President and CEO Catherine Tait, Global News editor-in-chief Sonia Verma, and CTV News Ottawa bureau chief Joyce Napier. Federal Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino participated in a panel discussion with Saba Eitizaz of the Toronto Star, Global Television Network’s Rachel Gilmore, and Hill Times columnist Erica Ifill.[3]
During and following the event, Tait told Mendicino that CBC/Radio-Canada needed help "from police, and from legislation," to address "online harassment targeting journalists." She also offered to share the CBC's "work on disinformation through the Trusted News Initiative and Project Origin" in advance of a "Disinformation event with G7 Ministers in the new year."[4]
CBC participated in the TNI's Trust in News 2023 livestream event on March 30, 2023.[5]
